This blog started with a walk. I was walking my dogs one cold February morning in 2021 and the idea of writing a blog came to mind. I told myself: ‘I like writing. I am slowly garnering the courage to show my person, through my art, to the world, why not write about it as well’.
My Beyond the Canvas blog was thus born. It lost its name along the way and its
frequency varied greatly throughout the years, but I always came back to it and enjoyed doing it.
More than four years later, I have decided to make this entry the last one, in this current form.
I have decided to better leverage social media and my monthly(ish) newsletter to keep you informed about news about my art and the events I am involved in.
If you are interested in keeping up with what’s happening on the art front, you can subscribe to my newsletter at the bottom of my website’s main page (www.mireillelaroche.ca).
I am also planning to evolve my Blog into a more topical series of short essays
on matters that are of interest to me. I am not sure what form or frequency it will take but I will be posting them on social media where relevant, including Linkedin.
Here is one I wrote on the public service back in May:
I want to sincerely thank my good friend Lynn for reviewing all of my posts, making
suggestions and comments. Thank you, my friend, for helping this Francophone navigate the English language.
So, until the next iteration of this blog and my next newsletter, here is a bit
of what’s coming up for me art wise.

On August 16th, I will be participating in the inaugural Artscape in Carleton Place. It is a juried exhibition hosted by the Carleton Place gallery and will run from 10:30 to 5pm.
It will be located beside the gallery at 210 Bridge Street. In September and October, I will have a small exhibit, in collaboration with Arteast, the St. Laurent Public Library, located at 51 Côté Street (Ottawa). The title of the exhibit will be Signs of Change and will mostly feature paintings depicting fall and its wonderful colours.
The next Art Lending of Ottawa show will be September 20th, from 10am to 4pm at the Jim Durrell Recreation Complex on Walkley road (Ottawa).
Lastly, my paintings Sense of Home and You Matter recently found their forever home in Ottawa and Moncton, New Brunswick, respectively, and I couldn't be happier.
I hope you have all been able to take advantage of the warm weather and rest for what will definitely be a busy and eventful fall. It seems like normality has become abnormal of late, so might as well make ure we are up for the ride. Or ideally, take steps in each of our lives to make it smoother and less impactful on those we love and our community.
